Slovakia Travel Itinerary

Slovakia the hidden gem of Central Europe. Still not well discovered by the tourist with feel of exotic country offers wide variety of highlights from beautiful nature to rich history of the country with the biggest number of the castles per capita. Let’s discover Slovakia with E-TRAVEL.SK

Day 1: Arrival in Bratislava

Arrival at Vienna airport. Meeting with the guide and transfer by luxurious bus to Bratislava. The journey takes about 45 min. Prior the check in Panorama City Tour of Bratislava by bus – the Blue Church, Presidential Palace, Palisady District, Slavin Monument with breathtaking view on Bratislava and visit of exteriors of “business card” of Bratislava – Bratislava Castle. Check in at the hotel. After the check in continue in walking part of the city tour. We will continue the walking tour in beautiful historical city center of Bratislava – St. Martin’s Cathedral, Opera House & Reduta Building, Main Square with Old Town Hall, the gem of Bratislava – Primatial Palace, St. Michael’s Gate, Mozart House, Academia Istropolitana, Palace of Hungarian Parliament and many more. The dinner in stylish restaurant within walking distance from the hotel. Overnight in Bratislava.

Day 2: Small Carpathian Wine Road & Little Rome of Slovakia

Buffet breakfast at the hotel.  Departure to Small Carpathian Wine Road, what is one of six wine regions of Slovakia and with the Slovakian part of Tokaj region, one of the most importants. in Small Carpathian Wine Road produced also the most favorite wine of Maria Theresa – Racianska Frankovka, the legend says every time Maria Theresa drunk it she became pregnant.  As we know she had 16 kids, so she definitely loved it :).

The first stop in a small wine town Svaty Jur with a beautiful square. Enter to a workshop of production of traditional local pottery Majolika. Continue to Trnava, what’s nickname is also Little Rome of Slovakia, or Slovakian Rome thanks to a great amount of churches, cathedrals and monasteries. During the time Bratislava was a capital city of Hungarian Empire, Trnava was a seat of archbishop. Lunch in Trnava area. Continue to Red Stone Castle, romantic castle situated on Small Carpathian Hills. The castle has the biggest cellars in Central Europe. Afterwards visit of wine town Modra, the historical town famous also as a birthplace of Slovakian national hero Ludevit Stur, who fought for autonomy of Slovakia within Austro – Hungarian Empire. Continue to “capital” city of Slovakian wine production Pezinok. Wine tasting at stylish wine cellar and afterwards traditional wine dinner. Return to Bratislava. Overnight in Bratislava.

Day 3: Nitra – Banska Stiavnica – Low Tatras

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Departure towards the oldest Slovakian city Nitra, here lived and worked the St. Cyril & Method the patrons of Slovakia who brought Christianity & invented first Slavic alphabet Hlaholika, the predecessor  of Serbian, Bulgarian & Russian alphabet. Visit of beautiful historical city center and entrance to St. Emeram Cathedral. Continue to the beautiful monastery in the mountains Hronsky Benadikt, entrance to the monastery. Continue to Banska Stiavnica, former mining city (UNESCO). Walking tour in historical city center and entrance to the New Castle. Continue to Banska Bystrica, during 2nd World War the center of Slovakian National Uprising, short walk in city center. Transfer to Low Tatras area. Accommodation at Low Tatras area.

Day 4: High Tatras

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Vazec Cave, entrance to the cave. Continue to High Tatras, visit of glacial lake Strbske Pleso, mountain villages Tatranska Lomnica & Stary Smokovec. In Stary Smokovec take a funicular to Hrebienok and short stroll to Studenovske Waterfalls. Return to Low Tatras. Overnight in Low Tatras area.

Day 5: Spiss Region

The Spiss region is one of the most beautiful regions of Slovakia, not only thanks beautiful nature but also thanks to rich architectural legacy. In this area used to live mainly the German settlers, who invited here the king Belo IV, in 13th century after war with Tatars.  The Spiss Region is a region of UNESCO monuments. Entrance to Spiss Castle (UNESCO), the biggest castle of Central Europe and to below Spisska Kapitula Abbey (UNESCO) with cathedral of St. Martin. Continue to medieval city Levoca, stroll along beautiful square with city hall and Basilica of St. Jacob (UNESCO) with unique wooden altar of Master Paul from Levoca. Continue to another medieval city Kezmarok, entrance to protestant wooden church built without using any nail (UNESCO). Continue to Poprad and visit of gothic historical city center Spisska Sobota. Dinner at traditional Slovakian restaurant – Koliba. Return to Low Tatras. Overnight in Low Tatras area.

Day 6: Orava Region

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Visit of Western part of Tatras – the Orava region, one of the most authentic regions of Slovakia. Entrance to open air museum of folk architecture in Podbiel. Continue to “Dracula” Castle Orava, the fairy tale castle, where in 1922 was filmed the first film about Dracula – Nossferatu. Entrance to the castle. Afterwards visit of traditional Slovakian wooden mountain village Vlkolinec (UNESCO) which is still inhabited. Return to Low Tatras. Possible to bath in Aquapark Tatralandia. Overnight in Low Tatras.

Day 7: Vratna Valley – Zilina – Bratislava

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Check out from the hotel and departure towards Zilina. Stop in Salas Syrex, where we will have the workshop of production of traditional Slovakian cheeses. Continue to Vratna Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys of Slovakia, part of National Park Small Fatra. Taking a funicular to Snilovske Peak (1524 m) and enjoying the breathtaking view. Continue to center of North – West Slovakia Zilina, walking tour in historical city center of Zilina, visit of unique completely squared square of Holly Mary. Continue to city of Trencin, walking tour in city center. At evening return to Bratislava and check in at the hotel. Dinner in Bratislava and overnight.

Day 8: Departure from Bratislava

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Free time in Bratislava. On way to Vienna airport possible to stop at chocolateria Kittsee and have a chocolate tasting and factory tour. Arrival at Vienna airport and end of service.
